“I just got back from a game and things went great.  To tell you the truth, I
haven’t felt that calm at the plate for a while (or ever). I remembered your
techniques when I was at bat and I hit the ball.”

The following e-mail was received from Jonathan’s father January 21, 2004:

“My son is 14 years old and has played little league baseball since he was
about 8 years old. He has been taking hitting instruction for 3 years with some major league pros and they say to us that he has all the mechanics and eye hand coordination and power to hit. Only problem is, in the game, he just can’t seem to hit.

Jonathan is extremely motivated to be an excellent ballplayer. For spring tryouts he was drafted in the first round to a National League team which made him feel even better. This season will be crucial for him because he has high expectations of making the high school freshman team, so he has to start hitting. His fielding and other elements of the game are outstanding.

Towards the end of last season his hitting problems started. At the end of last season he ‘‘was chosen to play on a travel ball team and only batted .125 for the season. To make it worse on him, the coach recently has brought some new players to the team and he was not selected to play in the next tournament this weekend.

We know he has it; his hitting coach knows he has it. Now it’s time for us to help him know that he can do it. I would be interested in setting up a consultation so you can meet with Jonathan. Thank you.

Anthony Chiusano”

“On January 26th my parents brought me to meet with Dr. Crowley at his office in Burbank. I let him know that I did fine in practice, but I would somehow get tense during a game. He assured me that my batting problem
soon be a thing of the past. During the hour session Dr. Crowley had me use his Mental Mechanics technique and we worked on a number of things like tightening up at bat, over thinking and the pressure associated with all of that.”

“Two days later, January 28th, I emailed Dr. Crowley the following:

Dear Dr. Crowley. . .my savior,

This is Jonathan Chiusano. I met with you on Monday January 26. You told me to email you on how things went. To start off with, I just got back from a game and things went great. To tell you the truth, I haven’t felt that calm at the plate for a while (or ever). I remembered your techniques when I was at bat and I hit the ball. But the thing that shocked me the most was when I struck out, I had absolutely no failure feelings inside of me. I walked away and remembered some of the “pictures” and said to myself: “I’ll get him next time.” I am glad that I have learned a way to be relieved of my feelings of failure and pessimism. Thank you very much for your help and support, I’m hoping I will see you again.

Sincerely, Jonathan Chiusano

P.S. YOURE A GENIUS!

I practiced another week and emailed Dr. Crowley with more results
February 7th:

“Dear Dr. Crowley,

Hello, it’s Jonathan Chiusano. I had my first league game two nights ago and I’m writing to you to tell you the results. Overall, it was a fantastic game on my part. I went 1 for 2 with a walk: it was a fly out (no mental error just
early on the ball) and a hard line drive single to right field. Each time I came to the plate I had confidence. I imagined the pictures I created and everything turned out great. Thank you very much.”

Sincerely, Jonathan Chiusano

April 19 ,2004 Email:

Hello Dr. Crowley,

“Sorry I haven’t contacted you in a while, I have been quite busy. First off I’ll tell you that I have been having the best season of my life. I’m batting 3rd, 4th, or 5th. I’ve been having fantastic games lately. I’ve had games where I went 2 for 2 with 2 doubles.

But the main reason I am contacting you is because of my last game. We were playing my friend’s team, Robbie Mousselli. Robbie is the hardest throwing kid at Hart. He throws low 80’s, which is pretty fast at my age. Well my first at bat I walked, second bat I got a single, then everyone got nervous because Robbie started pitching.

I got up to bat against Robbie, my coach had me bunt. Nothing exciting but it was a good bunt. Anyways, my team was losing 3 to 2 . It was the bottom of the 7th (we only play 7 innings.) And the very top of the lineup was up. I was in the hole. One kid hits a double, another kid gets a walk. So there’s a man on 2nd and 3rd. I am up.

But before I get up, I sat in the dugout just really concentrating on all of your methods. I calmed myself because I was a little nervous against Robbie. Then I get up to bat and they call time out. The whole time they are talking I am preparing myself. Time out is over and I am up to bat. Robbie sets and I concentrate, the pitch, it was thrown hard and inside, I see the ball as if it was in slow motion; the ball looked like a bean bag. And I cranked the ball over all of the outfielder’s heads (we were playing on a college sized baseball field). I won the game with my shot, scoring both of the runners on base. We won 4 to 3 because of my hit. I hit a ball over 310 ft. against the hardest throwing 13 yr. old in the valley. My team was all over me, and we were ecstatic. I had so much fun.

Later I talked to Robbie. He said I hit the farthest ball off of him ever!”

THANK YOU. Jonathan Chiusano
