Many of Dr. Crowley’s success stories are with Major League Baseball’s classic players like Steve Blass, Mark Wohlers, Steve Sax, Rick Ankiel, and outfielder Shawn Green. Others like Chuck Knoblauch, Mackey Sasser and Rick Ankiel never had the opportunity to learn the “Crowley Method” and had their careers ended abruptly and too early.
Steve Blass, who’s career ended in 1974 did finally get to meet Dr. Crowley and they worked together on his wild pitches in 1998 for one hour. He went to the mound and immediately threw his first strike in quarter of a century. Blass later pitched an entire game at Pirates Fantasy Camp without a wild pitch!
Wohlers fell from grace with one wild pitch after another, like Steve Blass, yet made a miraculous comeback in 1999 when the Cincinnati Reds flew Dr. Crowley in to work with wohlers. It took only three hours and Wohlers classic wild pitches were replaced with strikes.
Steve Sax and Dr. Crowley worked together in 1983 and Sax quickly overcame his errant throwing problems to first base. Steve Sax’ career continued for many years with less anxiety.
So the book has a message of hope for those struggling with their “invisible opponent” and guidance for those who work with athletes to improve performance.
